Summary

This paper describes the research and teaching traditions in the field of Bulgarian studies at Belgium Universities such as Universitй Libre de Bruxell, Ryksuniversiteit Gent, and Universitй Catholique de Louvain. A review on the Flemish and Walloons translations of bulgarian poetry and prose is also given. It stresses as well on the current situation in teaching modern Bulgarian in Belgium and on the difficulties which Bulgarian lectureships have been facing over the last ten years.
